I 8 - Silver Anniversary 1. ag pg f Jtfsavip , CDAQH . V 4' , Assistant-coach Ken Hughes Sophomore coach Don Day Coach Controversy Disrupts Spring Sports During a controversy concerning player eligibility, Coach Myron Willett resigned from his position as head baseball coach at T.J. He had been informed by the principal and superin- tendent that he was obliged to allow a boy admittedly guilty of drinking to try out for varsity baseball. A coach for over thirty years, Coach Willett refused to compromise. His resigna- tion triggered heated reactionlfrom students, parents, and teachers. No other Denver coach would accept Willett's iob. Petitions were circulated and the Denver Classroom Teachers' Association began negotiating in Willett's behalf. When teachers threatened to cease sponsoring all after-school activities-speech events, all-school shows, publications, and sports competition- the athlete involved withdrew his demand. The baseball team finally resumed practice with Coach Willett advising and teach- ing the boys. The entire dispute received more public atten- tion than any comparable event in Denver Public Schools' his- tory.

5- 966 A Beginning, An End . . Six Yecirs Of Trcidition The best class ever at T.J. is a recurring term applied annually to the Senior Class. TheClass of '66 has attracted this phrase too, but, while known for achieve- ment and accomplishment, it was renowned as the first class to complete all six grades at Thomas Jefferson. This year's Seniors have actively participated in the de- velopment of school traditions. From drafting a constitution to accepting the leader- ship of T.J,, the reputation and image that Thomas Jefferson has attained can be greatly attributed to the ability and enthusiasm of the Senior Class of T966 Dues Chairman . . . . . .
