Juniors lead music groups Although the Concert Choir lost many strong singers to graduation, it still performed extremely well with a large amount of talent from the junior class. In addition to the annual Pops and Christ- mas Concerts the singers caroled down- town at the city library, the City Market, the Education Center, and the Hyatt, but this year with a different look. Instead of the traditional choir robes, which Howe ' s choir has always worn, this year director Tom Lewis decided that tuxedos and dresses fit the bill. Unfortunately, the bill was a major problem. Poor audience turnout at recent spring musicals had made it financially difficult for the music department to pur- chase new outfits in the past, but out- standing student participation in fund raisers made it possible this year. The Varsity Singers, wearing the same outfits as the choir, had another eventful year, directed by Mr. Bob Bramblett and choreographed by Mr. Ed Schwab. They were invited to sing at various places throughout the year including the Gift and Hobby Show at the Fairgrounds, Union Station, and the East Side Health Care Center. The trendy singing and dancing group performed innovating April 29 in a dinner-theater style at Howe. The event seated 125-150 people who were served dinner while the show choir treated them to an hour show on the stage with lights, props, and drops. Mr. Bramblett hopes the new event will be repeated in coming years, perhaps becoming as popular as the Pops and Christmas Concerts. This year the Madrigals, also directed by Mr. Bramblett, expanded their pro- gram. Besides having two feasts on the Howe stage, they visited two local churches. With Pedro Scott as King and Elyce Meyer as Queen, the medieval singers entertained at the Speedway Methodist Church and the Eastminster United Presbyterian Church. Unfortunate- ly, appearances at Union Station and the Indianapolis Zoo had to be cancelled be- cause of a flu epidemic just before Christ- mas vacation. The group of 20 featured not only solos by Kathy Miley, Pedro Scott, and Angie Bailey, but also flea tricks by the Court Jester, Guy Booher. All in all the music department man- aged to maintain the tradition of excel- lence for yet another year. (JILL FREDERICKSON) - 4 ' 1 5 if i ' ; ft ' , W-y rt MMMH i 1 4 v V kAY 12 Vocal Music
