Young actors enter outer space For many years the highlight of the music department ' s year has been the annual spring musical. Three years ago, department chair- man Tom Lewis convinced school officials that his young performers could benefit from a summer performance which would provide dramatic training at a more relaxed pace than during the school year. Although not a financial success, the performances have generally been good and the young singers have profited from their experiences. The 1 985 summer production was an outer space melodrama entitled Pardon Me, Is This Planet Taken Loosely based on Star Trek, the story had everything from romance and adventure to broad comedy. Particularly effec- tive were the roles of Regina Garza as a female version of Mr. Spock and Jon Martin as a lovesick robot in very human form. Also play- ing key roles were Guy Booher, Jill Frederick- son, Bill Yates, Dennis Trinkle, Kathy Miley, and Amy Gable. Although lack of air conditioning kept audi- ences small, the play was well received by those in attendance. Upper right: Angie Sommers is the hit of the show as the High Linjafoon.
