' ' No Work! No Win! ' ' Gymnastics Win. The 1975 girls gymnastics team, sec- ond in the state in ' 74, have worked hard to be number one this year. The desire to work and win and a great deal of talent were the special qualities of the team. Despite use of the gym by two other teams after school, the girls worked every night and on weekends perfecting routines on balance beam, uneven bars, vaulting, and floor exercise. As a whole, the team was both bal- anced and highly competitive. Many girls were high scorers during the sea- son. The strongest event was the un- even bars with seniors Jan Frick, Cathy McAtee and Suzie Lawrence and ju- niors Susie Lovell and Teresa Cobb competing. Seniors Syndii DeFur and Jan Jones and junior Georgia Solberg were strong on the balance beam. Susie Lovell was outstanding in vaulting and is expected to be among the best in all- around competition next year. Georgia Solberg and Gerri Simmons showed tal- ent in floor exercise, but the team suf- fered in this event from cramped prac- tice facilities and lack of depth. This year, the team welcomed back Miss Jan Brown, a long-time coach, to help former Howe student Mrs. Mari- lyn Reinhardt. Both coaches look for- ward to continuing the Howe tradition of winning gymnastics team in newer facilities next year despite losing many strong seniors.
