Freshmen and Reserves Win This year the freshman basketball team had a new coach Bill Smith, a former Howe athlete. The team had several outstanding scorers, rebounders and ball handlers. They were very com- petitive as players, as friends and as classmates. According to Coach Smith, The ability of the freshman squad to perform the uncoachable phases of bas- ketball seemed to be one of the strong points of the year. Like the freshman team, the reserve team was under a new coach. Mr. Larry Humes commented on the team, saying they worked well together and were willing to do the best job for the team and not for personal glory. The team had a very fine record this year. Lead- ing scorer was Ray Littleton, who aver- aged 15 points a game, with Mark Gil- lespie and Howard Long averaging 10 points a game. Leading rebounders were Ray Littleton and Howard Long with 10 and 9 rebounds a game respectively.

Wrestling— A Growing Sport At Howe Wrestling has become a really big sport here at Howe in the last couple of years. Much strenuous work has really paid off for this year ' s grapplers. The junior varsity team won the city title this year, the first time a Howe wres- tling team has captured the city title. JV placers were Mark Hill, Chris Roeschlein, Jim Lowe, Hal Page, Steve Massey, Kevin Moorhead, Russell Byrd, and Steve Wilson. Howe also had three city champs: Dana Craig, freshman; Steve Massey, junior varsity; and Greg McAfee, varsity. This year ' s grapplers should all be congratulated for a job well done as should their coaches, Mr. Jim Arvin, Mr. Paul Miller, and Mr. Jerry McLeish. l S jFrm
