I Diamond Season ir S Successful ■i - ' The varsity baseball team completed a successful 13-9-2 season. Pitching was the outstanding feature of the season. Steve Roberson, senior, had a fine 6-4 record, getting the call against the toughest teams. He was one of the best city pitchers. His earned run average was a verj- fine 1.03. Senior Rusty Eads led the team in most areas of hitting with a .320 average and 24 hits. Larry McCormick was team captain and led the team in RBI ' s. The team had sev- eral outstanding underclassmen. Doug McGuire played catcher and outfielder, Bernie Mackell and Kevin Johnson pitched and played first base, and Jim Holly played second base. Jim Holly stated, The team this next season can be very good. Most of the guys have been playing together for years and with a little help from Coach Spears and a lot of teamwork, we can do a lot. I feel proud and verj- lucky that I played for Howe with a lot of great players. It was a great experience. %. — i. ' tKl .A ' ' 1 ,Itome i

Golf The golf team finished with a fine record of 14 wins and 2 losses but fell short of goals to win city and sectional championships. The team lost city champ Dennis Merriman but have 5 let- termen back and several promising un- derclassmen. I ' d say we ' ll go unde- feated and take city and sectional, ' Doug Peters was quoted as saying. Doug was asked about the reaction to girls on the team. I think they would be accepted, provided they made the team under the same circumstances as the others. There ' s plenty of good fe- male golfers. . j « ia S i '
