Tennis Record Best Yet Howe ' s first undefeated varsity ten- nis team was made up of Bill Bankston, Tom Barnard, Dave DeHerdt, Leo DeHerdt, Keith Miller, Bill Rood, Mark Thomas and Phil Worthington. All were returning from the spring season except Jim Gossett and Mark Trulock. The Hornets were coached by Mr. Fink- biner and student teacher Paul Thomas, a former Howe player. The fall team was the strongest ever to represent Howe. Senior Mark Thomas and junior Phil Worthington were superb in tight matches. Mark has won sixty-one matches and lost only seven over the four years he has been at Howe. Bill Bankston, Tom Barnard and Dave DeHerdt along with Mark and Phil were among the top in the state, commented Coach Finkbiner. The freshmen and junior varsity in- dicated great strength for Howe in coming years. They included Matt Langenbacher, Gerry Boulais, Alan Guthrie, Brian Miller and Steve Barnard. » i

GiWs Tennis Undefeated Second Straight Season With a record like 10-0 who could com- plain? Certainly not the girls tennis team. For the past two years their record has been ten wins and no losses, capturing the city title as well. Along with the seven city trophies, the girls also won the sec- tionals taking four trophies. Lisa Scott and Mimi Boulais won in singles and Kathy Hinch and Becky Wilson in dou- bles. The four girls then advanced to the regionals where Lisa Scott took second place. This made her eligible for state competition. The team achieved their fantastic record by practicing every -day after school at Ellenberger Park or ih the gym if the weather was bad. With great team spirit and lots of help from Coach Wilkes the girls hope to have a better year if that is possible. 1. Se7iwr Kathy Hinch readies herself for a back- hand volley. 2.
