One of the major changes at Howe in recent years has been the rapid growth of work-study programs. In these pro- grams students spend half a day in school and the remainder working at a paid job for which they also receive aca- demic credit. They are able to apply job skills for which they have been trained in school. Sponsored by the Business Depart- ment and directed by Mrs. Yvonnne Perry, the Cooperative Office Educa- tion program trains students in the more practical skills required by a vari- ety of office jobs. Advanced business courses are a prerequisite for this pro- gram. Students are placed in jobs throughout the Marion County area.

Howe ' s JROTC unit has been ex- tremely active this year, not only with its usual schedule but with its many so- cial functions and public services. The newest addition to the corps is the girls drill team. In their first year of competition, they have already dem- onstrated a great amount of talent. With the promise that most of the girls will be back next year, we can look for- ward to a squad competitive with the best in the state. Our boys drill team was not idle this year either. They com- peted across the state with many types of routines, working hard all year. The cadets were also given the chance to at- tend practical exercises at summer camp and on a trip to Fort Knox. This has been a rewarding year for JROTC, and they hope for an even bet- ter one next year. ROTC Has Busy Year
