English The English Department continues to flourish with the use of phase-elec- tives. New electives were offered as well as the older ones. These courses give the students an opportunity to branch away from the traditional English format and concentrate on par- ticular areas of interest. Among the newest electives established was the Performing Arts class taught by Mrs. Baker. This class is designed for the ad- vanced drama students who enjoy per- forming before various audiences. Par- ticipating students are selected through auditions. Visuals was another new course, giving the student a chance to understand the processes in- volved in the actual filming of pro- grams. The student also learns about and experiments with cameras. Mr. Bruce Beck, department head, aids in developing the kinds of interesting class electives which appeal most to the student body. A. Foreign Language The Foreign Language Department includes the study of Spanish, French, Latin and German. Each program con- sists of grammar, actual speech and history. Students use the language lab to assist them in understanding their second languages. Among the activities of the year was a trip to La Tour res- taurant by the French classes for a French meal. Mr. Raymond Hulce, de- partment head, sent three of his ad- vanced Spanish students, Elaine Lage- naur, Terrj- Bevis, and Judi Rollins to participate in the I.L ' .
