Track As Told By Gary Selke Track events that I participate in are the 100 yard dash, the 220 yard dash, and the 880 yard relay, the 440 yard dash, and the high jump. Before running, I run one dash full speed, watch the other events so I don ' t get nervous, and listen to the starter so I can tell how his starting count goes. After you win a race, you feel different, depending on who you run against. If you ' re running against someone who ' s supposed to beat you, you feel great. But if it ' s someone you are supposed to beat, it doesn ' t mean that much to you. When I come in second, I ' m mad at myself because I know I didn ' t try as hard as I could. Of the events I ' m in, I feel high jump requires more skill and practice because you have to learn how to take off, learn your steps, and how to land without hurting yourself. The one track meet that I felt I did exceptionally well in was the Northwest meet, because I won my first blue ribbon. In fact, I won three blue ribbons! Track is not publicized as well as the other sports, and I think that I could do better with more spectators present, because we would have more support. ' XiLji
