The class of 1966 celebrated their first day as seniors with a breakfast. This was the beginning of many senior activities. X .I A The First Day Back- eeing Qld Friends, Filling Cut Forms Pushed by the late summer heat, and pulled by the early autumn wind, school begins and life quickens. Returning from iobs, foreign travel, or simple idleness, students once again are picked up by school's excitement and challenge. The halls, so long empty and quiet, are overflowing with tanned students, their laughter and discussion, the class- rooms, so long vacant and still, are transformed into hubs of learning and working, the cafeteria, so long without the aroma of food, is replenished with hungry students, the teacher and students parking lots, so long unused and unoccupied, are again teeming with cars. For the first few days, the focal point of the school is the bookstore, where everyone tries to get prepared for the first week's onslaught of homework. Circles of friends can be seen forming along the halls, trying to catch up on all the news and happenings of the summer. There are always those that have not fully realized that summer is over, but soon everyone is functioning and happy inthe school routine. Every semester students get writer's crcimp from filling out material which is tedious and tiring to students and faculty. With the issue of new semester schedules comes the headache of program changes and correction of mistakes for students.

Attending Lectures The buzz of wood saw and the odor of sodium bisulfate herald in the new year's classes. From the gym to the science lecture room, classes are in full swing soon after the beginning of the year. While the incoming freshmen get a strong taste of high school grammar, the seniors and iuniors receive in- struction on great literary works. Every student tak- ing a math course discovers once again how much one can forget over the summer, and searches for a student in a more advanced course to help him out. Strange, foreign sounds drift from the top floor language labs, where students try to master simple conversational skills. ln the art department, dexter- ous students perfect their skills in many different fields. The gym classes offer physical challenges to all freshmen and energetic upperclassmen. So whether the student's interest be music, business practices, home economics, or ROTC, Howe's enthu- siastic teachers aid the student in the development of skills in any field of endeavor. The foreign language lab is a great help to many students. The lab aids in pronunciation with the use of tape recorders. Building coffeetables, steptables, cabinets and cedar chests keep the boys busy everyday during woodshop.
