O 4 .AJ-I llffers Varlet PYRAMID TOP TO BOTTOM-Juanita Barker, Mara Isaks, Judy Fouts, Ann Johns, Jane Vogt, Roselyn Elich. Howe's Girls' Athletic Association offers a wide variety of activities to its many members. Mrs. Betty Burton sponsors the group with the assistance of Jane Vogt, president. Heading the list of fall sports are speedball and bowling. During the winter the volleyball team takes to the fioor. This was the first year for the G.A.A. volleyball team to play interschool games. Other sports the girls enjoy during the cold months are basketball, swimming at the Y.W.C.A., and ap- paratus practice. When the weather becomes warm- er, the girls take softball and bat in hand for a rousing game out on the campus. Each year the G.A.A. and the Lettermen's Club sponsor the Winter Wonderland Dance. In addition to its other activities G.A.A. partici- pates in a statewide telegraphic bowling tournament, and the annual playday at Bloomington. They com- pete in many tests offered by the G.A.A. State Asso- ciation. Members receive their awards which are given on the basis of points accumulated by out- standing participation in G.A.A. events at the Spring Banquet. Kgs gb.-LJWJ .. 7 L ,ace - 1. U .4 5 now as , vcr: nn' DONT EE TACKf V,TE Monte VVelch, Marilyn VVatts and Ronnie Lisby discuss campaign posters du1'ing the mock election. Classes make the school. In order to meet graduation requirements, every Howeite's program includes English, social studies, mathematics, health, physical education, and science. Our picture of the curriculum would not be complete if we omitted the government classes. Here Howeites gain a full knowledge of government principles and procedures, and through this course learn how to be better citizens. As part of the course the students con- duct a mock election, to become acquainted with voting procedures. Required classes Frances Rus- sell and Richard Vandalwark work on a distillation problem in chem- istry. Howe also offers biology and physics. Students planning t.o enter fields of medicine or science often take all three lab sciences. ,.w,i, Page eight f l l - 1
