I-Iowe's gentlemen of song, the boys' octet, have built a fine reputation this year through their appearances at varied public functions. Resplendent in white dinner jackets, this masculine crew longingly voiced Lover Come Back to Me in the Pleasant Run Revue. At church programs and other perform- ances they wore the snappy brown and gold uniforms shown at right. Programs for Fort Harrison, Railroadmen's and the Kick-Off Drive of the Red Cross were included in the octet's 1953-54 schedule. Assemblies at school and the annual Christmas program of the music department rounded out their list of performances. Mr. Frank S. Watkins is their director, and Jim Steiner is their accompanist. Howe's dance band formed only a few years ago has con- tinued to improve through the years. The band members can tell you that there is a lot of Work put into prac- ticing. Among their activities are playing for the Winter Won- derland Dance, sponsored by the Lettermen's Club and the G.A.A.g playing for the sen- ior class winter party, which came under the title of Toy- landg playing for the seniors' spring party, which was the Bunny Bounce. If Howe's fifty-member band has shown it- self to be one of the most improved organi- zations in the music department. Members of the A band, pictured above, are selected after careful training in the B band. The purpose of these two bands is sometimes confused, and it should be realized that B band is merely a training group. Outstanding musicians in the band re- ceived recognition for their work at a state contest in March.
