.w.......,--..,t...,..-1 Qi li H I H4 Q I F V S r L W r 1 44' gl L- 4 Q . e 32: L, Page nin ety-six Members of the Howe TOWER celebrated its six- teenth anniversary in May. Staff members Judy Stucky and Carolyn Collins repre- sented Howe last July at the Journalism Institute at In- diana University. During October, Judy, Car- olyn, Virginia Crider, Jessie Wuster, Bill Ridge, and David Rasmussen attended the IHSPA convention at Frank- lin, where they learned more about journalism and news- papers. Reporters on the staff cover assigned beats weekly. In ad- dition, some reporters have special assignments for fea- ture stories and news items not found on regular beats. Page editors read the mate- rial and plan page layouts. Copy readers edit the stories and write headlines. The paper begins to take shape when the copy is sent to the printer. Then comes the wait for galley proofs and then more corrections. The finished Howe TOWER is distributed to Howeites through their homerooms. Staff members can tell you that their work might get rough at times, but satisfac- tion is their reward in the end. Looking up current news for the TOWER is the job of staff writers Phyllis Myers and Carole Pryor. After their stories have been writ- ten and typed up, it is the job of copy readers David Hale and David Rasmussen to edit them. The rush is on! As you can see by the deluge of papers, another TOWER deadline has been success- fully met. Planning their page layouts for the next issue and discussing what articles will be used are page edi- tors Judy Stucky, Jessie Wuster, and Virginia Crider.
