Seniors occupy the coveted front chair sec- tion, and freshmen crowd the bleachers for programs of speakers, music, information, and entertainment. Six members of the Warren Central High School football team faboveb appeared on one of our assemblies to help promote a stronger relationship between our schools. Before and during the four lunch periods cafeteria workers are kept busy preparing such popular food as french fries and ham- burgers for 1300-plus hungry Howeites. Oh my aching ballot, replies Ginny Stuck to the news of Sue Stow. Winners of the mock election gather here to discuss their recent victory. Candi- dates for lesser offices were also chosen at this time, and as soon as the conventions were over, the election procedures and cam- paigns got underway at full speed. The annual mock election is an outstand- ing event at Howe as it brings with it not only a better knowledge of our government but many exciting, fun-filled days. Noisy campaigners in the halls, colorful posters decorating the cafeteria and classrooms brought Howeites to the peak of excitement Hey! How do you get out of this thing? A freshman voter puzzles over the complex voting machine, wondering which lever he should pull for his favored candidates. as election day drew nearer. Then the day came and passedg the polls closed and excited office-seekers quieted down to await the re- sults of the balloting. For the first time in Howe's history a split was registered when Nationalist Lonnie Til- lery and Federalist Bill Walton were elected governor and lieutenant governor, respec- tively. Remaining state oiiices were also equally divided between Federalists and Nationalists. Put up your dukes and fight like men! Jim was chosen by the senior class and faculty to represent Howe in the student delegation which visited the United Nations. After his return. Jim spoke at a Howe assembly describing his stay in New York. Jim and student representatives from the other city high schools also gave talks to various Indianapolis civic groups. Honors come to Howeites Every year two outstanding members of Carol Sue Dorsett was the choice of the the junior class receive the American Legion senior class and faculty for the DAR Good Citizenship Award.
