Cary Crawford doesn't look so dumb either as he works intently over the bunsen burner. It looks easy-but. have you ever tried it? All these things may look easy but they are still hard work.

This wishful think- ing was heard all day long as Howe prepared to celebrate its fourteenth birthday. But Lady Luck wasnt with us, and for the first time in Howes history. the Nlay Pageant was held indoors. Props were rushed to the gym. and soon Carol Carmichael was crowned Violet Queen by Tom Sheppard, Philosopher. XVith her court: Alice Ray. Barbara Swengel. Marilyn Franz. judy Miller, and of course. the little crown bearer Nancy Ceier, she watched the tra- ditional Maypole Dance and other dances showing the progress of Howe. These were perfonned by the girls' physical education classes. Page ten
