A bit ot Bach mingled with a dash ot the good old American swing creates a variety at music which is lovely to hear. The choir has sung tor many programs given at ditter- ent places in the city and tor almost all ot our school assemblies. They sang the popular Oklahoma l and other selections in the Pleasant Run Revue, and at Christmas time they presented a program ot Christmas music at an assembly tor the entire school. They also participated in mid-year commencement exercises and a special St. Val- entine's Day program. Pupils who wish to become members ot the choir must tirst pass a vocal test. ln this way the best voices in school are selected. Josephine Bailey is the accompanist, and Margaret Goldsmith is her assistant. When all these lads and lassies get together, the results are well worth listening to. Their tayorite arrangements are anything from Begin the Beguine to Battle l-lymn ot the Republic, and whether they're singing the classics or modern swing makes no ditterence-it all sounds good. The ensembles have otten sung at ditterent churches around the city, and tor the Masonic Lodge. On Christ- mas Eye they carolled tram the steps at the Monument Circle. Lett, right, lett, right-with batons flashing, white boots gleaming, the drum maiorettes strut down the gym tloor to the tune at a liyely march played by the band. Then, as the Star Spangled Banner rings torth, they stand gravely at attention, saluting the tlag until the last strains ot our national anthem tremble into stillness. When the ceremonies are oyer, the band again breaks into a rousing tune, and the maiorettes, again twirling their silyer batons, swing down the tloor in time to the steady rhythm. These high-stepping l-loweites are an add- ed attraction to many at our basketball games. Mr. Robert Burtord is their sponsor. I noticed that as the editor spoke, a young woman would occasionally lean tor- ward to add a word ot advice or warning, and upon gues- tioning the person sitting next to me, I learned that she is Miss Betty L.
