During the air raid drills, which are intended to prepare us students for an emergency, l serve as a special guard on the lower floor. We guards, with the help of the floor supervisor, do a pretty good job of getting l,3OO Howeites in the right places at the right time .... Helen and the rest ot the Horne Ec girls have learned to can the products of our victory gardens .... The boys in machine shop are learning about defense, too. Qin pledge of allegiance before each assembly is a patriotic touch which every Howeite observes in a dignified manner.
