Eloise Hearn We, the 1966 graduating class of Thomas C. Walker School are leaving this year¬ book as a treasure commemorating the most important year of our lives. As we journey on in life, many friends and good times will be forgotten. Many of us would like to bring back those fond memories of our high school experiences. Many tireless efforts have been spent in preparing this yearbook. It is the sincere wish of the 1966 yearbook staff that as you turn these pages, you may recall the many smiles and friends at dear Thomas C. Walker High. The impact of our “textured”yearbook illustrates the impact this school year has had in preparing us for the future. Note the intricacy of the weave. Interwoven similarly into our lives are the invaluable learning experiences of our school days...learning ex¬ periences that have involved innumerable persons, places and things. The impact of these experiences will be felt for all the years to come. JUiat l iTSiUHLi ll,.J HfsrJJ £Jir3:i V-’irM Administration Our Principal Speaks Dear Class: Throughout your entire life you have been taught, watched over and protected. You have been guided by your parents, teachers, schoolmates and friends. Your background is full of rich experiences which can be used in helping you to make many wise decisions. As you graduate, remember that you must still depend on society at large if you would succeed in your chosen fields. You must work cooperatively and continuously with your-associates. You will find the road rough and unbearable at times, but this should not discourage you. You have a goal to attain, therefore, you can weather the hardships in order to accomplish your aim. You are now living in a changing society, and opportunities are being presented that have not been avail¬ able to you before, throughout the United States and the world at large. This success is yours if you will work diligently for your goals. I wish for you much success in the years that lie ahead. Haywood E. Johnson Principal Our Assistant To the Senior Class: Raphael painted wisdom, Handel sang it, Phidias carved it, Shakespeare wrote it, Wren built it, Columbus sailed it, Luther preached it, Watts mechanized it, Washington armed it, you must acquire it. The sum of wisdom is that time is never lost that is devoted to work. Go where you will and do what you may, the wise man is always at home. Robert T. Morris Assistant Principal Our Guidance Counselor Helps Us Mrs. B. S. Thomas Solve Our Problems The members of the class of 1966 have my sincere wishes for success and happiness as you depart from this phase of learning to greater levels of endeavors. I have great expectations for you. You are expected to be courageous and creative enough in your efforts to accept the challenges which confront you in the future. May the guidance I have departed with you be adhered to forever and forever, for it is a stepping stone into the path¬ ways of life. Our Indispensable Secretaries Mrs. H. E. Lemon Secretary Mrs. G. CHAPMAN Second Grade ‘ft X5 A for The Builders All are architects of Fate, Working in these walls of Time Some with massive deeds and great, Some with ornaments of rhyme. Nothing useless is or low; Each thing in its place is best; And what seems but idle show Strengthens and supports the rest. For the structure that we raise, Time is with materials filled; Our todays and yesterdays Are the blocks with which we build. Truly shape and fashion these; Leave no yawning gaps between; Think not because no man sees, Such things will remain unseen. In the elder days of Art, Builders wrought with greatest care Each minute and unseen part; For the gods see everywhere. Let us do our work as well, Both the unseen and the seen; Make the house where gods may dwell Beautiful, entire and clear. Else our lives are incomplete, Standing in these walls of Time, Broken stairways, where the feet Stumble, as they seek to climb. Build today then strong and sure, With a firm and ample base; And ascending and secure Shall tomorrow find its place. Thus alone can we attain To those turrets, where the eye Sees the world as one vast plain And one boundless reach of sky. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow First Verse Class Song The time is here to say good-bye To friends we ' ve found so dear We won ' t forget you Walker School And the time that we ' ve spent here Second Verse The guidance you have given us Will mingle with our tears And brighten up our glad young hearts Alone life ' s joyous years. Chorus To Walker School we bid adieu And now it ' s time to say That we have loved our stay with you And will come back some day. Composed By Barbara Howard Otistine Reid Dorothy Gray Tune: Auld Lang Syne Class Poem How we hate to say Good-bye To all we love so dear. We will never forget the many things That you have taught us here. So bright the future days may come, Our goals we may obtain. But we will remember that it was with you Our future really began. So as we leave this stage of life And future years pass by; We will never forget our memories Of the years at Walker High. Composed by Otistine Reid Dorothy Gray Seniors CHARLOTTE O. RANDALL LOUIS H.
