We hope that you, as members of the student body, enioy this book as the years pass, for it is a book of golden memories, covering a period of time which is in the past and can never be lived again. In carrying out this theme, memorable activities such as Registration Day, Football Season, the Black and Gold Prom, the Christmas Holidays, New Year's Eve, the Com- ing of Spring, the Junior-Senior Picnic, and Graduation are brought to mind. Sincerely, Shirley Ziese Gaye Wiley 0 I Through the years, many persons have made im- portant contributions to our school, not in gifts, but in service-A gift of service and spirit on the part of the faculty members and administrators who have helped build the morals of students and aided them in their quest for learning. It is to these persons who have contributed their ser- vices for a better school, that we dedicate this 1954 issue of The Spark. PT N TRQTIO T EELESON 'K E 5 ,Q exams QL? The Golden Bears were off to a grand start this season by beating T.M.l. 52-19 in the opening game. Being victorious in their first game, the Bears set forth for the district championship. Their first district win was a 26-14 shelling of Seguin. The next opponent to fall was McCallum. The Bears had a scare before winning their next district game. The Bears were behind 13-18 going into the last four finutes of play with the ball on the Victoria 48 yard line. In four plays, the Bears scored and won the game 20-18. New Braunfels, Burbank, and Lanier were the next foes to fall. But next came the big game with the Harlandale Indians, who had not been scored on in district play. The Bears scored first, but Harlandale tied it up. But the Bears were not to be denied and the game ended 34-7. Then Alamo Heights and Kerrville fell and the Bears had a clean sweep of the district championship. The bi-district game was to be played with Edinburg at Alamo Stadium. At the end of the half it looked as if the Bears were going to win, but the final outcome was 13-20 in favor of Edinburg.
