Team - 1 I . The Edison High Basketball Team completed the most successful basketball season that Edison has ever known. The Bears started out in a flying start by winning their lirst three games from the three big schools in San Antonio, Brackenridge, jefferson, and Tech. Next, the, Bears played in the San Antoino Invitational Touma- ment, in which they suffered their first defeat of the season at the hand of Austin. District play started the first week in january and the Bears sufTered a defeat by Harlandale in the second game of district play. From here the Bears started climbing back to the top by winning twelve straight games. Alamo Heights snapped this winning streak, but it was too late, for the Bears beat Lanier, two nights later to win the district championship. Alice Coyotes challenged the Bears in the Bi-District Playoffs. Again the Bruins proved they had too many guns as they defeated the Coyotes in two straight games to advance into the state tournament. In the state tournament, the Bruins walloped Vernon by the score of 59-38. This advanced our Bears into state AAA Championship game to be played the next night in Gregory Gym in Austin. The Golden Bears drew South Park Greenies as their opponents. Edison was close behind as the half ended, but the Greenies started pulling ahead and the Bmins could never catch them again as they were defeated, 88-55. Congratulations to the members of the teams and coach for winning second place in the state.
