Curriculum A ommittee Seated Cleft to rightl: Nancy Larson, Pastor Reese, Dr. johnson, Dr. McLaughlin, Bonnie Yonkers. Standing: Betty DeLong, Karen Benson. The Curriculum Study Committee was initi- ated last year upon approval of a recommenda- tion from President Irvin that the faculty con- duct an evaluation of Thiel,s education program during the 1960-61 academic year. The new recominendations brought in by the faculty- study committee, upon formal approval from the entire faculty of the college, should be put into effect as part of the new curriculum for 1962- 1963 According to plan, the study should ex- tend over a two year period-the iirst year be- ing devoted to study and the second to discussion of the committees report. A faculty committee composed of Doctor Roy H. Iohnson, chairman, Professor George C. Reese, Professor Emeritus Henry McLaughlin, and Doctor Philip Mitterling was appointed to head the study. .Mr. Joseph Werlinich and Mr. Earl Mezoff were made consultants. A sub- committee was also elected composed of two representatives each from the Science, Humani- ties, and Social Science divisions. Active student participation was felt to be necessary, therefore, six student leaders were appointed to serve as consultants to the com- mittee. They are: Karen Benson, Nancy Larson, Betty DeLong, Bonnie Yonkers, Jim Dingfelder, Howard Smith. To supplement the committee findings questionnaires were circulated among the students and alumni. As a final result of the curriculum study, students at Thiel will undoubtedly see a re- alignment of departments and requirements, the creation of new interdepartmental major fields, and the elimination of cooperative and special programs as well as changes in the college calendar.
