CHANDLER's Executive Officer, arrived on board in August of 1969 after completing a tour of duty under instruction at the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California. Lieutenant Commander Astorinok of New York, New York, began his naval career in July of 1958 with his graduation from the Maine Maritime Academy where he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree. At that time he re-ceived a direct appointment from the Merchant Marine as an Ensign in the Naval Reserve. He then augmented into the regular Navy in 1960. Shore duty assignments during Lieutenant Commander Astorino7s twelve years of naval service have included the staff of Commander, Anti-Submarine Warfare Force, Pacific and the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and International Relations A Since his commissioning, Lieutenant Commander Astorino has served in a number of sea duty billets and assignments including: Operations Officer, USS SAFECUARD CARS-255, Weapons Officer, USS ARNOLD .lu ISBELL CDD-8697 and Commanding Officer, USS KALMIA CATA-184-l. Lieutenant Commander Astorino departed the CHANDLER in February to assume command of the destroyer MILES C. FOX CDDB-8297 homeported in Newport, R-. I.

Commanding Officer COMMANDER ROBERT F.. CONNALLY, III, USN Commander Robert F., Connally was born in Baltimore, Maryland on 30 May 1929 and now makes his home in Manasquan, New Jersey. He graduated from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia in 1952 and commenced his naval career through the Naval Officer Candidate program shortly thereafter. His early assignments were in the destroyer BRISTOL fDD-8573 as Communications Officer, in the minesweeper BOBOLINK CMSCC07-25 as Executive Officer, and in the Communications Security Section of the Naval Security Group Detachment located in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. From Hawaii, successive tours were s ent as a student at the General Line School in Monterey, California, as Assistant Weapons Officer in the heavy cruiser BREMERTON CCA-1.305 and as Executive Officer of WALDO COUNTY CLST-11635. Suhseq uent assignments included tours in the Stategic Plans Division in Washington and as Executive Officer of the destroyer HULL QDD-94-55. BOWMAN, JR., USN Lieutenant Commander ,lack B. Bowman, Jr., arrived on hoard 1 February 1971 while THEO- DORE E. CHANDLER was undergoing upkeep in Suhic Bay..He reported from San Diego where he had just completed decommissioning USS TAUSSIC CDD-7465. Lieutenant Commander Bowman, originally of Philadelphia, Pa., was commissioned in 1960 after completing 4 years as an NROTC Contract Student and mechanical engineering major at Duke University. His first duty took him to Newport, R. I., and the USS KHETCHMER CDER-3291 where he held the billets of MPA and DCA. Upon completion of this tour and 5 months in Philadelphia turning an MSF over to the Vietnamese Navy, he was assigned as Executive Officer and Navigator in the USS HAVRE QPCE-8775 on the Great Lakes. After augmenting into the regular Navy in June of 1964 he was rewarded with a years Shore Duty in Vietnam as an advisor. Additional tours consisted of Naval Destroyer School, Operations Officer USS HARWOOD QDD-8611, Engineering and Management instructor in the NHOTC program at Stanford University and Executive Officer and final Commanding Officer of USS TAUSSIC CDD-7461. Lieutenant Commander Bowman finally relinquished bachelorhood upon completion of the WESTPAC deployment and is now married to the former Judy Collins of Porterville, California. 'z , . .L - .
