When Carol Ewoldt first started to school she went to a school about 16 miles north of Whitman where she stayed with her grandparents. She attended this school one year. Then the next five years she went to a school four miles west of her home. There were seven pupils in this rural school, among them Jim Barker. 'Ihe sixth through the eighth grades she attended a school alborut a mile and a quarter east of her homeg there were nine pupils in this sdiool. Her first year of high sdiool she went to Hyannis where she was a cheerleader for the second team. As a sophomore she came to Thedford where she became a cheerleader with Oarolyn Goehring and Barbara Harrell. During her Junior year she was again a cheerleader with Carolyn Goehring and Madeline Bryant, a representative of student council, and co-edirtor ofthe school paper. As a senior she was editnorof the school paper, secretary of the Pep Club, and secretary of t-he senior class. In the fall of 1944 he was promoted ln- to third and fourth grade room with Mrs. Bunner as teacher. For hh fourth year he journeyed 18 miles south of Thedford to attend u rural school. In the fall of 1950 he entered 'lhomfas County High School at Thedford, Nebraska. FLOREA l In 1942 Hazel Florsh entered the first grade in a smell rurd Idlool in District 4 southofThedford. Thissdyoolwu 255 miles fromherhome and shehad to walk to and from school. In 1948 this school was closed so her folks moved to Thedford where she entered the 'ith grade in the Thedford Elementary School. She was second high gill in the county in the 811h grade examinations. In 1950 she entered the Thomas County High School as a freshman. When she was ssophomoreshe went 'to Ashbyfor the typing contestand got first in the 10 minute typing. ' The next year she ftook u piano solo to the District Music Festival at Sidney and received Exce1lent . She has accompanied for both boys and girls glee. In the summer of 1953 she went :to Girls' State at Lincolnl Atthe present time she is working onanothermanosolowhichmeplanstofuakevtotheSandrllMnslcFestivs.lat Mullen. After this she hopes to go to Alliance for the District Music Festival.
