PROGRESS OF YEARS SENIOR HISTORY Amiost the hills of southeastern Ohio were twenty-six tooolers who had mul- tiple PLEASANT EXPERIENCES THAT RESULTEO IN A PROGRESSIVELY BETTER OUTLOOK FOR EACH NEW TOMORROW. THESE TOCDLERS ARE RECOGNIZED AS SENIORS TODAY. TWELVE CF THE GROUP VENTURED INTO THE FIRST GRAOE ROOM AT ThE PLAINS FlEMENTARY SCHOOL ONE humid September morning in 19 4-2. A few were accompanied by mothers, but most of THESE STUOENTS CAME ALONE. The TWELVE WERE GARY ALTON, RONNIE BuMGARDNEP, RlTA Lee, Nancy Lonas, Dennis McAllister, Geraldine Sharpe, Barbara Smith, Dolly Smith, Sue Smith, Frank Stalder, Cheryl Thompson, and Phyllis Winner. The re- maining FOURTEEN ATTENDEO OTHER SCHOOLS. The FIRST GRADE TEACHER WAS MRS. WlL- ma Johnson. Other elementary teachers were Mrs. Camilla Weisenbach, second grade; Mrs. Emma Beckley, third grade; Miss Alta Cooper, fourth grade; Miss Irene Elliott, fifth grade; and Miss Elva Cooper, sixth grade. Dull moments were few. We went to Mrs. Darnell's home to view President Eisenhower's inaugauration on TV. we made a trip to a bakery; following that WE TRIED OUR SKILL AT MAKING BREAD. We ALSO VISITED BEASLEY'S WHOLESALE COM- PANY. WE INVITED OUR MOTHERS TO VISIT US AND ENJOY TEA ON MOTHERS' DaY. ANOTHER TIME WE MADE CAREFUL PREPARATIONS AND INVITED BOTH OUR MOTHERS ANO FATHFRS TO VISIT MIGHT SCHOOL. WE ENJOYED SEVERAL HIKES IN ThE PLAINS AREA INCLUDING ONE TO THE HOME OF OUR TEACHER FOR A CLASS PICNIC. WE OBSERVED BIRDS AND COMPILED A BOOK WITH PICTURES AND STORIES ABOUT ALL THE BIROS WE HAD SEEN. To ADD TO OUR MANY EXCITING EVENTS, MlSS ALTA COOPER READ US MANY AD VENTURE STORIES. OuR JOURNEYS TO THE MUSEUM, IN MARIETTA, AND THE ATHENS MESSENGER , ATHENS, PROVED TO BE EXPERIENCES TO BE REMEMBERED. We HAD A DOLL SHOW WITH PRIZES FOR THE OLO- EST, THE SMALLEST, AND THE LARGEST ONES; WE ALSO HAO A JAPANESE EXHIBIT. After becoming accustomeo to school life on the first floor, we took the manual ESCULATOR 1 to THE SFCONO FLOOR TO BE MEM6ERS OF THE THIRO, FOURTH, FIFTH, ANO SIXTH GRADES. THERE WE CONTINUED THE STUOY OF READING, WRITING, AND ARITH- METIC. THE MOST MEMORIAL OCCASION, TO BE SURE, WAS OUR GRADUATION EXERCISES FROM THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL; AND THEN WE LOOKED AT A NEW TOMORROW IN THE LARGE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING. We FELT LIKE VERY SMALL CREATURES IN A NEW WORLD DURING OUR FIRST YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL. THE COURSES WERE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE IN THE EARLIER YEARS. I N- CLUDEO IN OUR STUDY WERE SCIENCE, MATHMATICS, ENGLISH, LANGUAGES, BUSINESS SUB- JECTS, INDUSTRIAL ARTS, HOME ECONOMICS, HEALTH, APT, ANO MUSIC. ELECTIVE ACTIVI- TIES WERE BAND, GLEE CLUB, VARIOUS ATHLETICS, LIBRARY SERVICE, LATIN CLUB, FUTURE Homemakers of America, Silver Savings Bank, and others. Included in the senior YEAR WERE PROJECTS FOR ECONOMIC GAIN SO AS TO FINANCE A JOURNEY TO WASHINGTON and New York. The elected leaders in our high school days were 7th, Janet Strole, John Jackson, Dolly Smith, and Ruth Beckwith; 8th, Dolly Smith, Phyllis Winner, Shar- on Young, and Barbara Smith; 9th, Dennis McAllister, Dennis Pendergast, John Jackson, and Richard Cullison; 10th, Janet Strole, Dianna Hamilton, Cheryl Thomp- son, and Donna Justice; 11th, Dennis McAllister, Cheryl Thompson, Sharon Youn6, and Gary Alton; and 12th, Frank Stalder, Phyllis Winner, Cheryl Thompson, and Donna Justice. The Seniors wish to thank the members of the Board of Education, the parents, AND THE FACULTY FOR THEIR GUIDANCE AND FOR MAKING POSSIBLE A VISION WITHIN US THAT CASTS A BRIGHT RAY OF LI6HT ON A NEW TOMORROW. OuR YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL RE- SULTED IN OUR HAVING BETTER KNOWLEDGE, KEENER WISDOM, AND SINCERE LOVE WHICH WILL HELP US TO LIVE BETTER WITH OUR FELLOWMEN AS EACH SUNRISE BRIN6S EACH TOMOR- ROW.
