Dull moments were few. We went to Mrs. Darnell's home to view President Eisenhower's inaugauration on TV. we made a trip to a bakery; following that WE TRIED OUR SKILL AT MAKING BREAD. We ALSO VISITED BEASLEY'S WHOLESALE COM- PANY. WE INVITED OUR MOTHERS TO VISIT US AND ENJOY TEA ON MOTHERS' DaY. ANOTHER TIME WE MADE CAREFUL PREPARATIONS AND INVITED BOTH OUR MOTHERS ANO FATHFRS TO VISIT MIGHT SCHOOL. WE ENJOYED SEVERAL HIKES IN ThE PLAINS AREA INCLUDING ONE TO THE HOME OF OUR TEACHER FOR A CLASS PICNIC. WE OBSERVED BIRDS AND COMPILED A BOOK WITH PICTURES AND STORIES ABOUT ALL THE BIROS WE HAD SEEN. To ADD TO OUR MANY EXCITING EVENTS, MlSS ALTA COOPER READ US MANY AD VENTURE STORIES. OuR JOURNEYS TO THE MUSEUM, IN MARIETTA, AND THE ATHENS MESSENGER , ATHENS, PROVED TO BE EXPERIENCES TO BE REMEMBERED. THERE WE CONTINUED THE STUOY OF READING, WRITING, AND ARITH- METIC. THE MOST MEMORIAL OCCASION, TO BE SURE, WAS OUR GRADUATION EXERCISES FROM THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL; AND THEN WE LOOKED AT A NEW TOMORROW IN THE LARGE HIGH SCHOOL BUILDING. We FELT LIKE VERY SMALL CREATURES IN A NEW WORLD DURING OUR FIRST YEARS IN HIGH SCHOOL. THE COURSES WERE DIFFERENT FROM THOSE IN THE EARLIER YEARS. I N- CLUDEO IN OUR STUDY WERE SCIENCE, MATHMATICS, ENGLISH, LANGUAGES, BUSINESS SUB- JECTS, INDUSTRIAL ARTS, HOME ECONOMICS, HEALTH, APT, ANO MUSIC. ELECTIVE ACTIVI- TIES WERE BAND, GLEE CLUB, VARIOUS ATHLETICS, LIBRARY SERVICE, LATIN CLUB, FUTURE Homemakers of America, Silver Savings Bank, and others. Included in the senior YEAR WERE PROJECTS FOR ECONOMIC GAIN SO AS TO FINANCE A JOURNEY TO WASHINGTON and New York. The Seniors wish to thank the members of the Board of Education, the parents, AND THE FACULTY FOR THEIR GUIDANCE AND FOR MAKING POSSIBLE A VISION WITHIN US THAT CASTS A BRIGHT RAY OF LI6HT ON A NEW TOMORROW. OuR YEARS OF HIGH SCHOOL RE- SULTED IN OUR HAVING BETTER KNOWLEDGE, KEENER WISDOM, AND SINCERE LOVE WHICH WILL HELP US TO LIVE BETTER WITH OUR FELLOWMEN AS EACH SUNRISE BRIN6S EACH TOMOR- ROW. WE HOPE TO BE GOOD CITIZENS AND TO DO OUR SHARE IN TOMORROW'S UNIVERSE. Histor y Committee Dolly Smith Barbara Smith, Chairman BUILD TODAY All are architects of fate. Working in these walls to time; Some with massive oeeos ano great, Some with ornaments of rhyme. For the structure that we raise, Time is with materials filleo; Our todays and yesterdays Are the blocks with which we build. Build today, then, strong ano sure, With a firm and ample base; And ascending and secure Shall tomorrow fino its place. PERSONNEL SENIORS AND UNDERCLASSMEN SENIORS John D. Jackson Gary L. In order to oevelop these potentialities into REALITIES IT IS OUR TASK, AS A SCHOOL SYSTEM, TO PROVIDE AN ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH ALL STUDENTS WILL MEET SITUATIONS REQUIRING CERTAIN AND DEFINITE KNOWLEDGES, HABITS, SKILLS, ATTITUDES, AND APPRE- CIATIONS. We believe the aims as set up unoer the ABOVE HEADINGS SHOULD BE DETERMINED BY THE NEEOS OF OUR COMMUNITY, AND IN ORDER TO ATTAIN THESE OBJECTIVES IT IS NECESSARY TO PROVIDE EXPERIENCES THAT WILL ENABLE STUDENTS TO THINK AND ACT AS IN- DIVIDUALS AND YET WORK HARMONIOUSLY WITH OTHERS. We feel that by combining the good of the SO-CALLED FORMAL TYPE OF EDUCATION WITH THE TESTEO ANO PROVEN OF THE PROGRESSIVE SCHOOL, WE, AS TEA- CHERS CAN BEST AID OUR STUDENTS, SUGGEST TO THEM, GUIOE THEM, AND ABOVE ALL, INSPIRE THEM TOWARD THAT POTENTIALITY, A FINE CHARACTER WHO CAN EFFI- CIENTLY LIVE IN THIS UNCERTAIN ANO COMPLEX SOCIETY.
