Text from Pages 1 - 72 of the 1961 volume:

PREFACE In this publication, FROM THESE ROOTS, we shall review THE RICH EXPERIENCES LIVEO AT IHE PLAINS Hl3H SCHOOL. FROM OUR ROOTS EVOLVE HAPPY MEMORIES! MEMORIES OF STUDENTS LEARN- ING IN CLASSROOMS, PARTICIPATING IN ACTIVITIES, AND BLOSSOMING I N CHAR ACT ER. I THINK THAT I SHALL NEVER SEE A POEM LOVELY AS A TREE. A TREE WHOSE HUNGRY MOUTH IS PRESSED Against the earth's sweet flowing breast; A TREE THAT LOOKS AT GOD ALL DAY, And lifts her leafy arms to pray; A TREE THAT MAY IN SUMMER WEAR A NEST OF ROBINS IN HER HAIR; Upon whose bosom snow has lain; Who intimately lives with rain. Poems are made by fools like me, But only God can make a tree. With roots composed of the small growing roots of the adolescent personnel, the stronger base roots of the advanced CLASSES, THE MATURE SUPPORTING ROOTS OF THE DIGNIFIED SENIORS, NOURISHED BY THE STRENGTH OF THE ACTIVITIES AND THE GUIDANCE OF THE FACULTY,FORM THE TRUNK-LIKE BASIS FOR THE ADULTS OF TOMORROW. As THE students of The Plains High School go forward into life, some with roots that will spread and strengthen, a few WITH ROOTS THAT WILL WITHER AND DECAY, MAY THEY SUBSTANTIALLY SPREAD THEIR INFLUENCE IN LIFE TO PROMOTE THE WELFARE OF MAN- KIND, AND TO EXPERIENCE HAPPY LIVES THROUGHOUT ETERNITY. And TO THESE ENDS MAY THEY BE GUIDED BY THE MAKER OF LlFE. TABLE OF CONTENTS S ECTI ON Happy Personnel 1 Efficient Administration 2 Creative Act ivities 3 uspendable Advertisers h Thomas S.
