32 1 By'LAW5'. CXXXVIII. A member elected shall be forthwith notified of his election by thepSecretary, Who shall at the same time furnish himfwith a copyof the By- Laws, and request fhim to pay to the Treasurer his entrance money and semi-annual subscription in advance. H XXXIX. The payment of these sums to the Treasurer shall entitle the person elected to membership of the Club, and shall be evidence of his assent to the By-Laws. XL. A Any person who shall receive the notice of his election and a copy of the By-Laws of the Club, and shall not, Within thirty days thereafter, make payment as aforesaid, shall forfeit all rights acquired by his election. OF STRANGERS. X L I . A member may introduce a stranger to the Club, and shall thereon register in a book to be kept for that purpose the name and residence of such stranger and the date of such introduction, to all Which the said member shall affixlhis own nameg and he shall also, When-convenient, pre- sent the stranger to one or more of the Board..

B Y-LA WS. 3 I whom five shall be a quorum for businessj, who shall be chosen as Directors are now chosen, at the stated meeting in April of every year. XXXIV. The committee shall ill vacancies which may occur in its own body by choosing members of the Club to Hll the said vacancies, and shall con- tinue to serve until a new committee be regularly elected. ' XXXV. A candidate for membefsiiip may be proposed to the committee by any member of the Club, who shall state in writing the name and residence of the proposed candidate. , XXXVI. lf the committee, by unanimous consent, shall decide to receive the person proposed as a candi- date, it shall cause his name, with the date, to be registered in a book set apart for the purpose, and to be posted on the bulletin board during two weeks, after which time the committee, by a unanimous vote, may elect him a member of the Club. , XXXVII. If the vote be not unanimous, the candidate shall be rejected, and shall not be renominated within one year thereafter.

Such introduction shall not confer any right of re-entrance, but the Board of Direction mayin its discretion, give a written invitation to any stranger for ten days which shall not be renewed within two months, or for one month which shall not be renewed within six monthsfi XLIII. At the written request of five members, one of whom shall sign himself responsible as in By-Law XLVL, a quorum of the Board, by a unanimous vote by ballot,lmay extend to any stranger who may have been previously invited to the Club for ten days or a month, the ,privilege of admission for a period of one, two, or three months more: Provided, That such privilege shall not be enjoyed until after the payment to the Treasurer of ten dollars for each month specified in such request: Arid previded further, That in the case of ofhcers of the Army and Navy of the United States stationed here, invitations may be issued for six months, with the privilege of renewals for like periods, and that the monthly payment shall be ive dollars instead of ten dollars: And provided further, That such privilege may be withdrawn at anytime by the Board. XLIV. Residents of the city of Philadelphia, not being members, shall not be admitted to the Club more
