Lex, Samuel B. Thomas, John Biddle, M. D., Joseph Swift, and their associates, be and they are hereby' created a body corporate and politic, with the name, style and title of 'The Philadel- phia Association and Reading Roomf with au- thority to elect officers and to establish By-Laws for their government, and to hold real estate, the yearly value of which shall not exceed three thou- sand dollarsg provided that nothing herein con- tained shall be so construed as to authorize said 'Philadelphia Association and Reading Room' to do any other act or acts, in their corporate ca- pacity, than are herein expressed. fPa1fnphZet Laws, 18542, page 726.1 By a decree of the Court of Quarter Sessions for the City and County of Philadelphia, made the 25th of May, 1859, the name and title of The Philadelphia Association and Reading Room was changed to that of THE PHILADELPHIA CLUB,H with the same privileges, powers and au- thorities to which it was lawfully entitled under the former name.
