Dot is the type who never has any fault to find with others. She has that something which makes her personality impossible to beat. Dotty's an asset not only to the class but to the whole school as well because of her singing talent. Dot has a song ready for any kind of an assembly and usually has to sing a few encores before we let her leave the stage. Dot plans to make her career in the modeling field and as we said before with her personality and natural abilities she s a surenre success. We all hope however, that Dot will not let her singing go. 6 'C' TQ 5 S-at 1 DOLLY TYLER GESICK Laugh and the world laugh: uztb you WILLIAM RICHARD FARIZO Wrllre Keep em rollrn along Born New York New York October 30 1930 Actrvrtres Hr Y I 2 3 4 Football I Sceneshrfters 3 4 If there s somebody srttrng behrnd you crackrng hrs knuckles you may rest assured that rt rs Wrllre Wrllre alras the Mad Spanrard doesn t care much for the darly grrnd connected wrth school To use hrs words It s too much work Wrllre s marn rnterests are centered around the ZUIO racrng world Hrs knowledge of the sport rs unsurpassed hrs drrvrng rdol rs Brll Schrndler He hopes to get rnto races some day hrmself We have heard that Wrllre has a new way of speedrng up those engrnes so don t be surprrsed to find hrm wrnnrng the Indranapolrs Memorral Day Race some trme rn the future ELEANOR HELEN GERL Gabby What rome mrfent lbe rest enlarge Born Clrnton Connectrcut November 21 1931 Actr lrtres Ivy Leaves 4 Hr Y 4 Sceneshrfters 1 Freld Hockey 1 3 4 Basketball 1 4 Softball 1 4 Athletrc Assocratron 4 When we re rn need of a good typrst the arrow pornts to Eleanor You can just about always hnd her rn room 2 workrng on Ivy Leaves as she was thrs year s edrtor The paper was very well done Not only do we find her commercrally rnclrned but she has qurte a knack at cookmg sew rng etc The hockey team can be thankful that El was out there gettrng after the ball Next year she expects to attend Larson College and we wrsh her the best of luck Bubby Born Clrnton Connectrcut July 16 1931 Actrvrtres Softball 2 Basketball 2 3 Freld Hockey 1 2 3 Choral Club 2 3 Sceneshrfters 2 3 Morgan Tower 4 Bomul 2 3 4 Magazrne Charrman 4 Athletrc Assocratron 2 3 4 Morgan School and Mr Davrs are both greatly rndebted to Dolly because of the splendrd Job she drd rn runnrng the 1948 Magazrne Campargn Dolly was rn charge of the busmess end of the campargn and handled the recordrng and tabulatron of the subscrrptrons and money Thrs however rs just once more that Dolly has done a swell Job she rs always ready to take on an other and see rt through Dolly rs one of the most popular grrls rn the school Her pleasrng per sonalrty and abrlrtres have made her a very valuable member of the class Dolly has one favorrte hobby and that rs roller skatrng Dolly rs gorng to go to busmess school next year If the maga zrne campargn was a sample of her busmess abrlrtres shell be a great success RONALD CHARLES GOING Hot Rod Ron 49 A laugh :J abut you make zt Born Madrson Connectrcu August 26 1931 Actrvrtres Hr Y 1 2 3 4 Hr Y fPresrdentb 3 4 Sceneshrfters 2 3 4 Forestry Club 1 Foot ball 1 2 Track 1 3 4 Basketball 1 2 4 Ivy Leaves 1 2 3 Hr Y Youth rn Government 2 3 Ronald rs known to hrs classmates as Hot Rod because of the garly parnted ralopy he rs always drrvrng around Trnkerrng wrth thrs ralopy rs Hot Rod s favorrte pastrme Ronald seems to be very rnterested rn government and hopes to be a Certrfled Publrc Accountant Hrs pet lrke rs real good food and hrs pet drslrke rs grrls can that be true? several months of hazing we finally dropped to the lowly status of Freshmen the underdogs of the school CAll Freshmen please notej Our adviser was Mrs Whelan who did very much to benefit us When we took our places rn Room Srx our total was a little over thirty but this was soon reduced to twenty eight when several of our fellow classmen left us We were surprised and pleased how ever to discover many new classmates from West brook The greatest event of our first year was the buy mg of class rings whxch left us for a trme with a deficrt in our bank accounts That same year we gave the upper classmen close competition by capturing second place IH the One Act Play Contest wtth the Senrors holding the first prize 1946 1947 Our Sophomore year thrs year was uneventful to say the least Being then a part of the school we took the prrvilege of rnrtratmg the Freshmen Our favorite pastime was letting everybody know of our presence In the magazine campaign we didn t win but descended to third place and rn the One Act Play Contest we recexved honorable mentron Plans were made to stage varrous shows and dances but were never completed Miss Spicer was our adviser doing what she could to boost us out of our little rut However something mteresttng did happen two new members joined and stayed w1th us They were Ted Hrbson and Ed johns After that a class was never complete without them Our class also excelled in sports as there were many athletes who qurckly proved themselves to be first team materral 1947 1948 A period of great achievement and a notorious name we started our junior term wxth a bang and ran headlong through until june We presented many activities and found many problems Our treasury increased from a small amount Cwas rt fourteen dol lars9J to a total balance of over one hundred dollars The reason for this amazing gam IS attrlbuted to the Cinderella Ball the Junior Prom and the various sales whrch the class sponsored The Ctnderella Ball may have started something new at Morgan By shear effort we made this dance a huge success socially at least although our treasury dldnt profit Nevertheless this caused our fellow schoolmates to rise from their seats and gaze at this wonder class of 1949 Another of our act1v1t1es was a radro drawing contest rn which the radro was practically given away srnce our total profit was the astounding sum of ten cents' Any previous remarks against us were erased when we presented the a fmanclal success to us as rt served as a morale burlder There were many out of school partres whrch added vartety to the year There was also much fun making at the junior Senror Banquet and the Basketball Banquet 1948 1949 Our last the best year at dear Old Morgan' This year we really rolled IH high gear Wrth our competent class adviser Mr Dugund at the throttle we started rrght to work on the yearbook By electing two compe tent fellows Ken Cookson and Ted Hrbson as edrtor and busrness manager respectively we didn t waste a minute rn begtnnrng our publrcatron We suddenly realized that this was our last toughest and probably our shortest year Tryrng to make the most of rt we therefore strove harder Now our finlshed products are plalnly v1s1ble for all to see One of the remarkable things that the 49 ers accomplrshed was being the first class ever to succeed in selling enough ads to make the yearbook profitable The preparations for the Sentor Cotrllron were begun in the middle of November thus giving us ample time to make the dance a successful event I-Irrrng an excellent orchestra and spending consrderable time on decorations helped put rt over socrally but agarn our success was shaky from the financral vrew point Another outstandmg actron that was taken was the establishment of the Senior Press Assocratron a long forgotten actrvrty 1n Morgan This printing club has published tickets pro grams pledges and the like for the benefit of the entire school Now we the Class of Nineteen Forty Nme are departrng to assert ourselves rn the world and do our best to benefit others Our ambltron 15 not only to leave Morgan well prepared for our future lxves but also to leave behind us some good and deslrable deeds whtch will be remembered by the rest of the students We srncerely hope that success was obtarned and that our deeds were refreshed rn your memory by this his tory ARTHUR SCHELD . , ' . F' P SENIOR PRESS ASSOCIATION This year saw the starr of one of the most hard working clubs in Morgan The Senior Press Association This club was organized by john Spinning Kenneth Cookson Art Scheld Ed johns and john Graef The boys started by cleaning up the old press and room down in the base ment and sorting the jumbled mass of type During this time the boys received much help and encouragement from Mr Joel and Mr Fletcher The prime purpose of this organization was to print programs for all the home basketball games but such a useful group could not go long before it was swamped with orders for printing Then in December the boys took on the tremendous task of printing programs and tickets for the annual H1 Y show To date the work of this organization amounts to over 600 dance tickets 200 letterheads and envelopes an average of 150 programs for each of the twelve home basketball games including line ups for both teams and finally 3000 tickets and 1000 programs a total of 20 000 pages for the H1 Y show Such a record speaks for itself as all this work was done during study halls and after school It is hoped by all who have beneflted by this organization and also by the boys themselves that it will not die out with the passing of the class of 49 The boys have therefore taken in as apprentices several under classmen who were interested and are teaching them how to set type chase it and run the press Let us hope they succeed and long live the Senior Press Association '-5. -.4 '- lI?f?1':1 X A., an A 'i C 'ii I, . THE SOPHOMORE CLASS The biggest thing done by the Sophomores this year was the purchase of their class rings, which were received in December, they were black onyx and gold. The class also held a big raflle which was quite successful. They decided to hold a movie at the Clinton Theatre but as we go to press the results are not known. In addition to these activities they have also held several movies, in all, it has been a very active group, under the able direction of their adviser, Miss Patricia Strange. Again this year, the Sewing Club took their well earned trip to New York City. IVY LEAVES This year the Ivy Leaves Staff worked hard to get out what the school thought was its best editions in several years. They also added a new feature by printing the paper in two colors. FOOTBALL This year the team was an exceptionally strong one although they didn't get much of a chance to show it. In the first game of the season the team beat Madison by a score of 48-7 which left the Madison followers slightly bewildered. The next game Don Scott and Ed Johns the teams two big line men couldn't play as they were too heavy for the small Chester team. Nevertheless the rest of the team with other members of the squad ran up a score of 26-O by the third quarter and then let a fresh- man team finish the game which ended 26-24. The mainstay of the squad was composed of Ed johns in the center slot, Don Scott on the left end, Bill Shefheld and Carl Woodstock on the right end, Ken Cookson right half-back, Otto Finkeldey left half-back, and Evie Hunt quarter-back. Several injuries during practice took Bill Leckey out of his end position, and also kept Dicky Walton, Fred- die Thompson and Timmy Donahue out of active par- ticipation and made things look serious for a while, but the encouraing words and critical eye of Coach Nor- man Drew soon whipped replacements into shape as regular team men. Praise must also be given to Roger Griffin who has been such a fine manager for the past two years, it is not an easy job as Roger will tell you. Much hard work went into the formation of the team and even though they played only two games, through no fault of the school or team, the boys and the coach deserve much credit. -H A It GIRLS' FIELD HOCKEY This eyar a most successful season was chalked up by the Girls Field Hockey team who, with a fine display of sportmanship and team work ended their season with 5 wms 3 ties, and only 2 defeats. The three seniors who played on the team will be missed next year but the girls hope for another top rate year. They did an excel lent job of leading the Morgan fans and also teaching the new cheers at pep assemblies These two elements are the main reason for the Morgan cheering section being one of the loudest and most well organized along the Shorline. jane York, Lydia Pardo, Betsey Dibble and Beverley Pendleton are back from last year and chose Gertrude Platts and jo jo Soder strom to complete the squad. BOYS BA As the Morgan Basketball season got under way for the 1949 and 1949 season many people felt that the team had seen its best last year and were doomed to fourth or fifth place in the shoreline league this season However among those whose thoughts of the team leaned hopefully to the brighter side were Mr Drew Mr Duguid and the fellows on the squad Starting with Don Scott in center the only regular back from the shoreline title winners of last year Mr Drew with the competent aid of Assistant Coach John Duguid began to build a team When the team won its first league game and then its second and third the hopes of even the most pessimistic fol lowers began to rise As the season drew to a close the team was riding safely in first place with only one loss in the shoreline and top rat ng in the state Then with the shoreline title safely tuckeci away the team entered the state tourney with high hopes and a large fol- lowing, both of which grew with each game. Finally the hard fighting Morgan team found themselves in the state finals in which they were outscored but not outplayed by a strong Tourtellotte team in 2 hard fought game. The boys returned home saddened by their loss to this strong team only to find the townspeople waiting with open arms and open hearts eager to do all they could for the team who exceeded their greatest expectations. A body of over a hundred cats met the team bus at Killingsworth circle and a huge procession lead by a police escort ran non-stop to the Andrews Memorial where a party was given. Many other fine gestures were made by the local citizens and merchants who glady and generously contributed to an award fund for the boys which enabled all the letterw'inners to receive sweaters and gold basketballs and which when SKETALL added to the tournament money enabled them also to take a weekend trip to New York This was the way in which the people of the town of Clinton rallied to show their gratitude and appreciation for this teams outstanding achievement in the history of Morgan basketball SCHEDULE 1948 1949 'ylorgan Hamden Hall Nlorgan Nlorgan Nlorgan Nlorgan Nforgan 'Nlorgan Morgan Morgan Morgan Nlorgan, ......, Nlorgan Morgan Niorgan Morgan Morgan Niorgan Morgan Nlorgan ........ ....
