The historian 'ascribes -this fact-in part to the circumstance that William Penn was fortunate enough to have a Dutch mother. The Dutch maidens of New York and New Jersey were dili- gently sought in marriage by the young men. of various nationalities in the early days of our colonial life 5 so it comes to pass that we have in this country many a good man with 'lots of Dutch blood in his veins, not descending to him in ithe male line--but in the female line.
