Van Nostrand, whose late husband had been one of our early Trustees, and who had shown her interest in our Society by an annual contribution to our treasury. We' have invested 58,000 in bonds, costing S8,4I6.5O, and 51,197.81 cash in bank. - In October last, during the controversy between the governments of the British. Empire and the Transvaal, a meeting of the Society was held, at which resolutions were adopted-expressing sympa- thy with the Republic, and invoking the good- oflices of our own Government'to preserve the independence of the Boers.
