When you 've said your morning prayers, and to God have given thanks For the night's protection, and your bread, ' ' And you go your daily way to your shops, or stores, or banks, With the loved ones' benedictions on your head, Will you kindly think of those who live so far away, But whose homes are just as happy as your own, And how your horrid war, whichlreason could not stay, Is changing all their laughter into moan? Duke's son-Cook's son-Son of a hundred kings, Fifty thousand chosen men-men of might and bold, Each obeying his country's call, but worthy of better things, And all to answer to the cry for gold-gold-gold. There are boys with hearts, and girls who love, in that land so far away, And they, too, have parted for the war, They weep through sleepless hours of night, and then they rise and pray, As never have they wept and prayed before.
