Pieter Schaefbank, at request of Paulus Van der Beek, declares that when he was farmer of the burgher excise he went with the officer Pieter Tonneman to the house of Jeurian Janse Kuiper for the purpose of gauging his brandy. Jeurian Janse Kuiper's house was closed and they went to Johannes Vervelen's brewery to fetch him. He acknowl- edged having received a keg of brandy from the ship St. Jan Baptiste, which was not quite full, and which he had sold to Mr. Joannes DePeyster. Robbert Hobbes, of Flushing, makes known by petition to the Director General and Council of New Nether- land that on Feb. 18, 1661, he had bought of William Hallet, also of Flushing, a house, garden and orchard.
