A new concept in education in The Dalles Senior High School, the Vocational Skill Center is fast becoming one of the most popular areas of academics. The Skill Center is unique in its variety of courses offered previously on a smaller scale last year. Remodeled as a result of a bond election, the building was formerly the Inland Navigation Company and has been renovated to suit the need of classrooms and shop areas. The Skill Center is based on the concept that students can learn the various skills by doing them as they are taught. This is the first year in the program and it will be another five years before it can be labeled a success, according to Mr. Robert Taylor, Administrator of the Skill Center. A unique thing about the Skill Center this year is that classes participated in learning experiences by practicing their newly-learned skills byjoining in the actual planning and remodeling of the Skill Center itself.
