Coach Carl Stager was well pleased with the Indians, because win or lose, they never gave up. Teamwork was the key word with our 1949 ball Club. The Indian's opener of the season was with Oregon City. The battle ended with The Dalles victorious 19-12. The Dalles High, headed by Ron Keil, chalked up their second straight win of the season over Battleground by a 20-O count. The coach of the V239 National Champs acknowl- edges Ted as being the most colorful keyhole 'ballerina' the Ducks have ever seen. lle coached one year at Baker producing a team that took second place in the State Tourna- ment. Wforld Wiar ll came along and Sarp join- ed the U. S. Coast Guard where he played bas- ketball on the Coast Guard team. After his dis- charge in l9-io he came to the Dalles High School as head basketball coach. During the last three years he has started the first all around basketball program that has hit The Dalles. Sarp as he is more commonly known, is a very shy fellow and a hard worker. All the basketball enthusiasts know that his highly or- ganized program will bring the future varsity teams of D. H. S. to state recognition. Maybe one of his boys will achieve the goal he did during high school-that of being selected three consecutive years on the All State All Stat High School Basketball team. Only two others have had that honor. i ,sa- flsarpii avliu- lOl Sfmzllirlxtqi Manager B. johnson, D. Wfray, C. May, -I. Scnttou, R. Bertram, 1. W, Vloolwinc, Coach Ted Sarpola.
