With THACH covering over 25,000 nautical miles on its round-trip voyage to and from the Gulf, the Quartermasters had more than enough charts to correct and prepare. Port calls and stops for fuel in Guam, Australia, Thailand, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Singapore and Hong Kong were planned with precision. The Signalmen kept visual communications a viable part of THACH's tactical strategy dur- ing tactical manuevering, underway replenishments and bilateral operations. With the lim- ited logistics and administrative support so far from homeport, the Hospital Corpsmen, Yeo- men and Personnelmen worked miracles day after day Coordinating medical evacuations at sea, personnel transfers and awards ceremony after awards ceremony, the ship's Sick Bay and Admin Office was teeming with activity dum, an-wcfwa-2 ---1 .-f ,I :s' one .'f- ffxww-ffsyfff -,ff,- - i, , ,, , sayr 'ft', lx- s ,,,,, ,,,, ,gyet 32 NAV-X DIVISION .1.....u..a:.dn:..a,...o--....a...u...J...-............:A.u.....g4.ig.JL.a2n.a,L-xi.-..42,..vu-u-bbe.anna-.scour W1-.. They took care of both LM2500 Gas Turbine engines and all associated auxiliaries and controls. They also own gauge calibration and the oil lab. From the time they left homeport to the day they pulled back in, it was the men in E-1 Division that kept THACH steaming night and day Many of them got advanced to a higher rank during this deployment, some received medals and awards for achievements, others found new light on a foreign ship, and some got in better shape physically Needless to say, everyone on this ship prospered in some Way on this deployment. THACH ventured to many ports and sampled the delights of foreign cultures. They also have had a great task to do regarding SOUTHERN WATCH. It was a testament to all THACI-I shipmates to make a deployment and then come home to loved ones in one piece and be able to stand up proud t0 be an American.
