The Radiomen of OC Division were up to the job and provided smooth, continuous communi- cations links between THACH, her counterparts and the Operational Commanders under Whom she worked. The harsh environment in the Gulf Was difficult to reckon with, but with constant vigilance on Watch in the Communications Center and continual mainte- nance of hardware and antennas THACH was able to speak and listen in support of her mission in the Gulf. Preservation was one of First Division's primary concerns. They providing manpower for bridge Watches, Visit, Board and Search teams, boat crews, Sea and Anchor details and Underway Replenishment details. This is the division in which many first-time sailors begin, develop as Seamen and then mature into rated Boatswainmates or strike out into other professional ratings.
