In the four years that we have known her we have grown to like her more and more. Attesting to this is the fact that she has been elected our class sponsor for the past two years. Her smile and friendliness can be unsurpassed and the many friends she has made while she has been at TWC are ones that will always hold her in high esteem. No one has had the opportunity to come into contact with more students than has she, but our class shall always claim her as our own. Surely, no one could be more deserving or more fit- ting to receive such a dedication as our own Miss Catherine lVakefield. dication college It is with dccp humility that thc Scnior Class also dcdicatcs thc 1952 TXXVECO to thcir formcr classmatc, Marilyn Forston. L, ii ' 4 The year 1952 is going to place world responsibilities upon the shoulders of each senior of Texas Wfesleyan as you take up yc-ur duties as a citizen of this vast empire. Never have world affairs called for leaders with broader understanding of national and international affairs and with more stability of purpose for the right. You will need an inner sense of values which comes only from a willingness to serve and to sacrifice. Your leadership on the campus leads me to feel that you will take your place in the business world with this same spirit of helpfulness to others. My blessing to you in your new tasks. LAW SONE President We as individuals or as a nation, it matters not how much we might wish other- wise, can only start from the place we are now standing. That position today, and for the immediate future, seems to be fraught with much ten- sion. Thus this is not an era for summer patriots, who will crack under the strain, but a time that challenges the sterner qualities of toughness and courage, tempered with patience. If we blend the attributes of our frontier forebearers with the wisdom and justice of our Divine Father, our chances of riding out the storm will be greatly enhanced. May your voyage be a successful one is the wish of the administration of your Alma Mater - Texas Wesleyan College. WALTER R. GLICK Vife-President l. NVe are grateful for the rich heritage which has been provided for our fore- bears. If we are deserving of the bless- ings of democracy, we must strive to maintain its principles and its precepts. College educated men and women should furnish the leadership for a perpetuation ofthe c'American way of life. May each of you accept this obliga- tion with glad hearts and willing spirits. J. This is one of the highlights of Sadie Hawkins Day, 1951, when Mr. F. R. Matthis is made honorary Depity. Dr. Gladys Bowman always has a lot of counseling to do with her students of business administration when regis- tration time rolls around. Everyone makes a vain attempt to be present at the annual all-school barbe- que at the opening of school in Sep- tember. just a glimpse of the tables and a por- tion of the receiving line at the faculty dinner given by Dr. and Mrs. Sone. Miss Maude A. Pettey, one of our 1 e counselors, who always has a friendly smile and a word of advice or a help- ful suggestion at the request of a stu- dent. She is always ready to listen to a problem. This is just a reminder to you students that diligent study and hard work may result in being a member of Alpha Chi. Two faculty members, Mrs. Rose Lisenby and Miss Annie Lee Knox, and one student, Helen Rester are three who have attained this rank. Mr. Rice really doesn't want a chapel seat, he is just checking and making his usual rounds at registration to see that everything is kept going in order- ly fashion. On top of her school work, she plays wife to one of the basketball players, Ralph Jackson, and mother to a four year old son, Skipper. This year she is a Freshman at TWV and a member of DEKA. Ralph and Pat's son donned a Basketball suit and was presented along with his mother at the homecoming game as mascot of the Ram Team. Our Congratulations to Pat for this honor! i DANA HART Head Coach When Dan Hart signed on the dotted line and took over the duties of head coach at the end of the 1950-51 season, he faced the bleak outlook of unsettled world conditions and the possibility of the draft taking his best basketball timber. But Coach Hart came through with traditional commendments similar to those he enjoyed during the days when he coached the successful Lambs and organized one of the best intramural programs on the TW campus. With second place in the Big State Conference the Rams made a tremendous showing this year. A graduate of Odell High School, Coach Hart has come a long way since he lettered on the Ram team his second year as a student at TWC. After serving in the armed forces he re-entered TWC in September, 1945. Following his graduation in 1947 he went to North Texas State College where he received his M.S. degree. His winning smile and pleasing personality has not only won him many friends among the athletes but won the heart of lovely Dorothy Sue Rowe, graduate of TWC, whom he married in 1950. The Team Seated: Rasco, Jackson, Chapman, Zastoupil, Dowler, Bradley. Standing: Tassione, Windham, Baum, Clifford, Buck, Jefferson, Hart. The co-captains of the 1951 basketball team are Lou Zastoupil and Charles Moe'l Dowler. Lou, a three year letter- man from Dallas, is noted for his fine drive- in shots and takes more than his share of re- bounds. This is his last year as a member of the squad. 'lMoe,', also a three year letterman from Burgettestown, Pennsylvania, is noted for his excellent re- bounding and accu- rate one hand push- shot. Moe is also serving his last year on the squad. Baskets by Zastoupil and Jefferson tied the score at 68-68. VVith five seconds remaining Dowler sunk a free throw for the winning margin. Three nights later the Rams beat East Texas 70-69. After missing three consecutive free throw tosses, Ralph Jackson hit a two- handed set shot with Hfty-five seconds remaining to give the Rams their second straight one-point victory. TWC traveled down to San Antonio to play St. Maryls and Texas Lutheran. It was a successful trip for the Rams brought back two victories. The high- light of the trip was the scoring of Mel Chapman and Dowler, who accounted for forty-nine of the total eighty points scored by the Rams. The East Texas Baptist Tigers spoiled the Homecoming by handing the Rams their second conference defeat with a score of 57-54. The Wesleyans got back to their winning ways by beating ACC 82-79. Chapman played the outstanding game of his career by rebounding well and scoring twenty-seven points. His twenty-seven points were the most scored by any Ram this year. Daniel Baker was the next opponent and was beaten rather handily with a 75--ll. In a return game the Rams attoned for a previous defeat at the hands of St. Edward's by beating them 53-48 at the Rec Hall. Bradley was high point man with twenty-four points. He scored ten of these in the last quarter. The final home game of the season was with Texas Lutheran. The Rams put on a fine display of shooting accuracy, winning 86-56. This scoring spree was TNVC's high for the season and tied the post war scoring record set by the 1946-47 team. The Ram reserves played the whole second half. The season came to a dramatic finish matching TW'C with ETB at Ma1'shall. The Tigers were one-half game ahead of the Rams in the con- ference standing. A victory would assure TXNC at least a tie for first place and possible a play-ofl' berth for a chance to go to the N.A.I.B. Tournament in Kansas City. The Rams played an inspiring game, but came out on the short end of the 74-68 score. The Rams had to be content with second place in the conference, finishing the season with a conference record of nine wins and three losses. The over-all record for season play was fifteen wins and seven losses. 60 THE GOLF TEA O. D. Bounds, head coach of the golf and tennis teams, graduated from TWC in 1941.
