3 Dedloatlon Wenzel Louis Stangel was born August 16, 1889, at Stan- gelville, Wisconsin, a town named for his family. He came to Texas with his parents before the turn of the century. After being educated at Texas A8zM and the University of Missouri, he taught animal husbandry at Texas A8zM. In 1925, with the opening of Texas Technological College, Stangel came to the new institution of higher learning to head the Department of Animal Husbandry. C Under his tutelage, Tech's livestock program grew from two gray mares to the present balanced herds of pure bred cattle, swine, sheep and flocks of fowl. He was named Dean of Agriculture in 1945, when Arthur H. Leidigh retired. He has directed the livestock division of the Texas Centennial, been superintendent of the National Aberdeen-Angus Show, judged the National Hereford Show, and directed the livestock division of the State Fair of Texas since post-war days. Among his many honors, Dean Stangel has been named by the West Texas Chamber of Commerce as a Top West Texan and holds an honorary doctorate from his alma mater, Texas A8zM. Upon the occasion of his retirement at the end of this aca- demic year, and after thirty-three years of service to Texas Technological College and the broad field of agriculture, we, the staff of the 1958 LA VENTANA, respectfully dedicate this volume to Mr. Agriculturei' Wenzel Louis Stangel, who passed this way and left his mark.
