Administration A, A, Smith L. L. LaRue Edward J. Williams Assistant to the President Comptroller Business MOUUQW . W ., tv. A former business manager and acting president of Texas Western College, Mr. A. A. Smith came to TWU in the fall of 1960. Mr. Smith once served as business manager and acting president of San Angelo College. The assistant to the president and his wife live on Sherman Drive. Both are members of the Methodist Church. They have one married daughter who teaches school in QEI Paso. Mr. L. L. LaRue is in charge of accounting, financial statements, budget preparations, bills, pay- rolls, and loan funds. He signs ap- proximately 2,000 vouchers every month. Mr. LaRue is a graduate of North Texas State University where he maiored in business administra- tion. He did advanced study at the University of Texas and has been associated with TWU since 1951. Before coming to TWU in 1958, Mr. Williams held a part owner- ship and was president of the Public lce Company, which has plants in Denton ancl Wichita Falls. He has served as president of the Denton Chamber of Commerce and of the Rotary Club. Besides his office work, Mr. Williams spends much of his time seeing that the University plant runs smoothly. lf there is a new sidewalk to be built, grass to be planted or building done, this is the man to see. i -u..

Dr. James W. Newcomer Administration Dean of the Faculty, Dean Lurline M. Lee Francis W. Emerson Dean of Graduate Studies Dean of Women Dean of Admissions ,l Dr. James W. Newcomer, a native of Ohio, assumed his duties as Dean of the Faculty and Dean of Graduate studies in 1960. Pre- viously he was academic dean and professor of .English at Olivet College in Michigan. Dean New- comer received his M.A. from the University of Michigan and his Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Dr. Newcomer has contributed many articles, stories and poems to professional publications and has served as critic for the Col- lege English Association and the Association of American Colleges and Universities Bulletin. Dr. Lurline Lee, Dean of Women came to TWU from the University of Washington, where she had been Dean of Women for four years. During the seven years prior to that, she served in the same capacity at Michigan State Uni- versity. ln 1960 Dean Lee, a native Texan, accepted the position with TWU. Her permanent address has been Texarkana. Her daughter, Mrs. Herman Shute, lives in New Boston. Vt Nt One of the most popular per- sonalities on campus is Francis W. Emerson, Dean of Admissions and Registrar. Smiling and friendly, Dean Emerson is always willing to help any student with a problem, or to escort prospective students around the campus and orientate them to the TWU way of life. Mr. Emerson came to TWU in 1929 as associate professor of speech. He served in that capacity until 1954 when he became acting registrar. Dean Emerson has earned a lasting respect as Dean of the Stunt Cup.
