6 J Wx 7f 1' Carroll Lowrey His classroom is the paint shop, his tools are his hands and his devotion is to the task and TWU. We speak of a teacher, helpmate and friend-Carroll Lowrey, University plant foreman. Mr. Lowrey first started his climb on the stairs of success with TWU in 1934 when he worked in the grocery division. He fought during World War Il in the Pacific and was discharged in 1946. He returned to TWU to work in the maintenance department. When the old foreman retired nine years ago, the job fell into Mr. Lowrey's hands. ln the course of his work, Mr. Lowrey has the opportunity to help students in everything from decorating for dances, building sets for stunts, and helping them as they climb the stairs of maturity. Working with the girls is like working with your own family. You become a part of the University and you'd be lost on your own, are some of Mr, Lowrey's words. Mr. Lowrey makes himself available to anyone who needs him - as any student on campus could testify. For him no iob is impossible. He admits that the final result may be altered a little, but we always get the general idea. Playing a huge part in campus tradition, Mr. Lowrey built and painted the original fish in 1954. The feeling for the fish wasn't as strong back then. But it kept getting stronger until we knew it had to be destroyed. I had nothing to do with its being burned, but I knew when it happened. I missed the fish last year, were his words when asked about the even-numbered tradition. lt is to Mr. Lowrey that we are indebted for helping us see the true spirit of TWU in working and learning together, and it is to Mr. Lowrey that the 1964 Daedalian is dedicated.
