'To The Glass Of l95O: Among, the distinguishing characteristics of The Little- Ghapel-ln-The-'Noods are the inscriptions included in the iconographies of the stained-class windows by the girls who designed and made. them. ?erhaos my favorite among them is the inscription of the Social Science window, quoted from Jane Addams: No two people or group of people can come into an affectionate relationship with one another unless they carry on a mutual task. Oftentimes , when l an sitting in the Chapel, l read this inscription, and meditate on its meaning. l remember how this great American woman was herself , in her devotion to the poor and needy living in the slums oi' Chicago, an ex- emplification of the truth of this statement. at 'dull house, the social center which she made world-famous, she dedicated her life to the alleviation of human misery, and in working with those who needed her she came to appreciate and respect their many sterling qualities, which they had never had the opportunity to express until Jane Addams came into their lives. 'now much better off the world today would be ii we could put is thought into practice between the Soviet world and our E nations! 'Ne cannot possibly get together when ' throats. But if, somehow, these two in some mutual task, such s organisation, e relation- th own group o we are at each other s . antagonistic forces could unite as the strengthening of the United Nati on . they would then, perhaps, develop that aiiectionat ship toward each other that would cause the war-clouds to scatter and be replaced by the sunshine of a world at peace. s college graduates it is your duty to work toward this end hay 'X urge you to accept this responsibility. 'fours sincerely, L. ii. Hubbard 'President
