Tennessee. Joe Redmond first saw Texas Southern ' s football program against Tennessee State as a pre-teen. After a successful college career, as well as a successful coaching career at Central State (Ohio), his dream came true. Anyone who knows him will eventually learn that this above average coach has a program for success that is rooted in his belief in Jesus Christ. So. it is perhaps more divine than chance that he came to TSU when he did. Faced with a lack-luster football program, his influence has been immediately seen, as his players turned a 500 plus season in his first year. But not even they could turn around some financial deficits that will influence the fu- ture of the entire athletic program. Because athletics are not funded by the State, along with some more institution- al problems, the sports program at TSU has been on a nose dive for some time. Save for the commitment of Dr. Spearman, alumni and friends, it could have very well been history before Joe Redmond has a chance to realize an- other of his dreams.
