Gus Cm bello Ten years have passed smce the members of the Class of 1913 were gradu ted and left therr beloved school I am now lrvrng rn Fort Vt orth On my vacatron I decrded to traye around the State of 'Iexas for the first trme srnce 1953 From Fort Worth my wrfe and I first went to Dallas Texas y here we met BILLY GUMM who lrves a few blocks from my wrfes parents We were glad to see hrm agarn He rs a bachelor wrth a Cadrllac and a unron prrnter s card He was strll carryrng on wrth hrs basketball career at the trme I saw hrm That nrght we went to the Club of the Deaf rn downtown Dallas There I met BARBARA JOHNSON flndrng she was marrred and had two sets of twms The first were three and a half years old and the second only four months old 'I'he next day we thought of gorng to Gladewater to see how good LARRY STEWART was gettrng along and go fishrng wrth hrm Upon enterrng Gladewater I requested a fillrng statron operator to drrect me to hrs address To my surprrse Larry was half owner of the place wrth hrs brother The nran I talked to called Larry out He was covered w rth so much grease that I could hardly recognrze hrm untrl he gaye me hrs fayorrte greetrng and then I knew rt was he Larrv told me he was the best grease monkev car washer and polrsher rn the whole town After gabbrng wrth Larry for some trme we left for Houston to see my w rfes aunt That nrght we went to the Houston Srlent Club There I met VIRGINIA ANDREWS It was easv to spot her rn the mrddle of a lot of boys grgglrng and hrttrng., them as she had done rn school The former JEANETTE FITCH also was there but I drdn t notrce her untrl she came up to me wrth a really cute baby rn her arms We had a great trme talkrng about our school days I found out Jeanettes husband was a skrlled mechamc The next dav my wrfes aunt rnvrted us to Beaumont to go fishrng VS hen we got there I started to drop mv hook rnto the Gulf to try my luck but I was stopped bv a man on the dock He found out I was deaf and took us 'to hrs office to get a pencrl and pad I was amazed to learn that BILLY JEAN GRAHAM was hrs w rfe I could spot her a hundred feet aw ay wrth that red harr of hers She and her husband were the owners of the dock I was fishrng from We got together and had much to talk over I drdnt learn anvthrng except how Brllre was getting along The day after that we left for Skrdmore mv old home town to see my father After stayrng there a few days we went to Sun Antonro Arrrvrng there earlv rn the mornrng I was thrrsty and stopped for a cool drrnk As I approached a cafe I saw a famrlrar name Lupe s Place I told my wrfe al out LUPE MERCADO So we went rn lmagrne our surprrse' 'Ihere was the former LUCILLE FLORES srttrng at the cash regrster l walked up and surprrsed her She got seared and gaye off the same old scream but recognrzed me rust rn trnre I saw a shotgun barrel porntrng out of the cook s wrndow and looked closer behind rt to find Lupe Mercado hrmself He dropped the gun qurckly came out and nearly shook mv hand off as rf rt were a prece of meat from a quarter of beef We sat down and ordered our drrnks findrng Lupe and Lucrlle were owners of the cafe and Lupe had a g rage bv the srde of hrs cafe He had gotten trred of workrng aw ax from hrs wrfe Lucrlle v . . .4 1 , V . .
