MEANING OF CRUSADER The first edition of The Crusader represents an attempt on the part of its editors to give graphic expression to the coming era of revitalized life and aspirations of Texas Military Institute. Dramatic changes in school policy, in the school's physical plant, and in the name oi its yearbook emphasize this reawakening to the challenge of present-day life. The return of Texas Military Institute to the Auspices of the West Texas Diocese of the Episcopal Church is symbolic of the crusades of the middle ages. When military enterprise united with the cross of christian leadership to Wrest the Holy Land from the Moslems. - Through its association of spiritual growth with academic and military development, the school accepts its place among the ranks of these christian powers of the past With no less enthusiasm than the crusaders. To hold the line against totalitarian aggression and at the same time preserve the freedom and creative vigor of the western World is the compelling task oi our generation. This challenge demands imaginative and far-sighted leadership on the part of our statesmen, of our military leaders, of our educators.
