I F mvlalu,--Q .i'..' li A J -.' S V ilu: ll lui: i v .2 . - ' ' ' A f ' ' ' is . . . Q BLUE BON N ETS Blue Bonnets! Blue Bonnets! Uplift thy tiny heads. We come to pay our homage To thy royal flowering beds. Be first to welcome spring-time, In her gorgeous robes enshrined, For thou art the most honored, Of all the flowering kind. Far o'er the verdant prairie, Where the sky so softly bends, There nods the bright Blue Bonnets, And sweetest fragrance spends. Blue Bonnets! Blue Bonnets! Thy charm we still relate On canvas and in poesy, Loved emblem of our State. -N. H. HARRISON. An inspiration-an inspiration for faith, courage, and honesty-that is what the bluebonnet typifies to me. lndeed, to the first pioneers of Texas, when the bluebonnet, symbol of Spring, made its appearance, it must have seemed like a message sent from Heaven-a promise for bounteous days to come. The winds that blow over Texas prairies and through the fields of blue- bonnets seem to echo the fame of bloody Alamo and of San jacinto's glory. All true Texans love and adore the bluebonnet, just as they honor and cherish the memory of those glorious leaders who gave their all in a successful attempt to establish the freedom of Texas. Our school annual has fitly been called The Blue Bonnet , for the name itself is inseparably connected with the great deeds and happenings of past days in Texas, the greatest State of the entire Union. It should be our honor and our duty to carry with us the inspiration of the Texas bluebonnet-to rise to greater and ever greater heights. -WILLIAM N.
