Other than an interest in chess, there were no requirements. Beginning members learned the different pieces and procedures used in playing the game. Some of the activities that were planned for its members were quarterly din- ner meetings and intra-club chess tournaments. The officers for this year's Chess Club were David Deibert, president, and Tim Overstreet, EOR THE NEXT MEETING - chess Club president David Deibert and vice-presr vice-president. The sponsor was dent Tim Overstreet plan possibilities for the upcoming meetings. Mr. George Schelkopf.

Various members attended the district meeting in Longview, Texas. Three members were elected to attend the state meet- ing in Austin, Texas. Other mem- bers attended the meeting for bill legislation. Cfficers were Shelia Ken- nedy, president, Jerry Philips, vice-president, Karen Williams, secretary-treasurer, Paula Mathis, reporter, Sharon Scott, parliamentarian, Hattie Wash- ington, chaplain. Sponsor of Co- ed Hi-Y was Mr. Willie Boyd. I +- WATCH THAT SPEAKER - Seniors Karl Harris, Jerry Philips, and Karen Williams keep an eye on the speaker during a Co-ed Hi-Y meeting.

FTA members involved in various activ'ties Building character and pro- moting interest in the careers of education were the main goals of Future Teachers of America. FTA activities included student teaching, making I.D. cards, attending conventions, and ush- ering at various meetings. FTA also assisted TSTA with their activities. A point system was used by members to allow them to attend state conventions and practice teaching at elementary schools. Paula Simpson served as 1974-75 FTA president. Julie Patterson and Carla Chasteen, vice-president, Debbie Year- wood and Resa Harris, secretar- ies, Cliff Gobin, treasurer, and Janie Bally, historian. READY FOR ANOTHER ONE - Ginny Hathoot, Mildred Cook, and Resa Harris work o n the FTA float to be entered in the Homecoming Parade.
