HEAVE HEARTY! Claudia Nelson and Carolyn Bone puff and 'want as they collect hay for an A.Y. hayride. AY slave day proves popular prank IS ALCOHOL NEEDED to have a good time? After a year of membership in Allied Youth, 400 A.Y'ers joined together with an emphatic Noi Aff.. the largest organization on the campus, had as its goveming body. a council of twelve elected members. Socials were the highlights of each month and ranged from informal hayrides and sockhops to formal dances. The organization also conducted educational programs about the effects of alcoholic beverages on the mind and body. Members looked forward all year to the Hbig deals in A.Y.: Slave Day, resulting in weary Hslave girls and general fun for all, and the Allied Youth Camival. On the carnival hundreds of members toil- ed for countless hours, but aching backs were forgotten when the big Saturday night came and the show went over with a bang. Councilmen and booth chairmen received the biggest reward of all: the trip to the Southwest Conference, where they exchanged ideas and had fellowship with delegates from surrounding areas. POINTS. POINTS were of prime importance to the forty members of the Opie Dalby Chapter of the Future Teachers of America. Wlhy? Because the six holding the highest number of points got to go to the State Conyention in Den- ton. The lively members. all females. earned their previous points in a number of ways: selling' Kid's Day buttons and Christmas eards . . . attending meetings and eommittee r-onferenees . . . making posters . . . serving as hostesses . . . tak- ing part on programs. The future s44hool-niarmsu worked hard In af-r-ornplish their elub's two-fold purpose: to study the teaching profession and to build eharaeter. To eompensate for their hard work. members were re- warded with a wide variety of soeials- from the hilarious Halloween costume party to the lovely Silver Tea for mem- bers. parents. and teaehers. In the spring the girls praetieed what they learned in F.T.A. as student teachers in the fourth and fifth grades. That day. with squirming kids who kept asking. Teaeher. how old are you? will be re- membered always. It was the very high- light of being an F.T.'X.'er. for it brought the thrill of being a real. sure 'nuf teaeher.
