f 'd We During this year at Texas Christian University the enrollment has been far beyond capacity. Witll classrooms, laboratories, halls and facilities ser- iously over-crowded, and with the new building developments, which have torn up and limited the use of much of our campus, the occasions for student dissatisfaction were exceedingly numerous The very fact that we were in the midst of a permanent building and development program made it impossible for the Board of Trustees to make adequate temporary improvements to pro- vide increased conveniences for our students. It is gratifying to know that our students not only endured the inconveniences and unsatisfactory conditions involved in our situation, they have entered into the work generally determined to get the most of the program in spite of the many things which they did not like. Their spirit has not been that of passive or lazy acquiescence. Most of them are quite aware of the handicaps under which we are having to work and they discuss these matters freely. There has been a widespread under- standing of the reasons for the difficulties with which we must work, and there is a genuine desire on the part of the student to cooperate in the maintenance of the best possible academic pro- gram during this temporary emergency period. All of which makes the Board of Trustees deeply grateful and strengthens their determination to move forward as rapidly as possible in the erec- tion of new permanent buildings, in the beautifi- cation of our campus, and in the provision of every possible facility to increase the satisfaction and effectiveness of student life and work on our campus. We express most sincere appreciation to all the students and especially to those student leaders who have worked so sympathetically and helpfully with the Administration during these strenuous days. M. E. SADLER, Prerizfcazf Texas Christian University
